• You must be a registered University of Georgia (UGA) Student
• Teams must be made up of 4 members or fewer

Submission Requirements

Basic Submission Rules

• No cross-submitting (submitting a project from a concurrent hackathon)
• No using code programmed before hacking time starts 

What to include in Submission 

• You must include your First Name and Last Name in submission 
• You must submit your github or code repo along with your project (if applicable) 
• Include a 2-3 minute video including the following:
  

  • What is your project/team name 

  • What tools were used to create the project 

  • What is the function/purpose of your project 

  • Demonstrate how it is used/features it has

UGAHacks Makeathon Tracks 

Best Build 

The best build track is where makers are able to build and show off any physical technology created during the event. It can consist of 3D modeling or engineered physical modeling made from recycled materials and other tech provided at the event.

Will be judged based on the following criteria:

• Design Quality  
  • Do the placements of the components make sense?

  • Is it a creative and thoughtful design?

  • Does each part of the design have a reasonable purpose?

    • If there is software coupled with the physical design, do they support each other well?

• Scalability 

  • Does the size of the design make sense? 

  • If the design is true to size, are the components placed well and provide reasonable functionality?

  • If the design is not true to size, can the placement and functionally of the components still make sense at their imagined true size?

• Functionality 

  • Are the uses of the design clearly defined? Demonstrate or explain.

  • If there are moving components, do they work?

  • If there is software coupled with the physical design, does it work as intended? Must provide the code repo/github.

• Bonus Criteria: How well does the build fit the ocean conservation theme?

Sapling Software 

The sapling software track is our hackathon traditional track where it is focused on a software based project.

Will be judged based on the following criteria:

• Design Quality

  •  Is it a creative and thoughtful design?

  • Does each part of the software have a reasonable purpose?

• Functionality

  • Are the uses of the software clearly defined? Demonstrate and explain.

  • Does the software work with little to no errors?

  • Must provide code repo/github

• Bonus Criteria: How well does the software fit the ocean conservation theme?

Sustainable Seedling 

The sustainable seedling track chooses the most sustainable focused and created project. If your project has any focus around sustainability, make sure to opt to be judged by the following criteria:

• Addresses environmental challenges

  • What problem is the design aiming to provide a solution for?

  • Why is this problem important to solve and what does it affect?

• Zero Waste 

  • Project is mindful of waste it may create and has a solution to minimize it 

    • Any physical technology (ie. 3D model, etc) has reusable components in theoretical usage, transforms waste, has longevity, or another means of not creating waste

    • Any software has optimal resource usage (ie. data structure) and can operate efficiently, reducing energy consumption

  • Bonus Criteria: How well does the design fit the ocean conservation theme?

UGAHacks Makeathon Side Challenges

Egg Drop Challenge 

In 30 minutes, makers must design a contraption with materials provided that will protect their egg from cracking after being dropped from various heights.

• Any visible cracking will be disqualified 

• Fall will start at 5ft and increase by 2ft every round 

• Which ever contraption falls from the highest height without having the egg crack wins 

Recycled Rollercoaster 

In 30 minutes, makers must design a creative roller coaster out of recycled materials that will have a ping pong ball rolled on it.

It will be judged by the following criteria:

• Ride duration

  • How much time does your rollercoaster last for?
  • The longer the ride, the more points you receive.

• Creativity/Design 

  • Is your design unique and fun?

  • Give your rollercoaster a creative name.

• Number of attempts/reliability 

  • Does the ping pong ball stay on the roller coaster the full time or does it fall off?

• Vertical loops

  • To increase the complexity of the design, are there loops that are upright? How many?

• Track Design 

  • Are the tracks made out of tubes or are the track supports more open? More open tracks will receive more points.
